ABOUT US

Enchanted Galapagos Lodge is well known to Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos from when it was first established over 25 years ago as a restaurant, then later as a hotel. The hotel was then sold to family friend, Judy Carvalhal (CEO of Enchanted Expeditions), and her children Tatjana Angermeyer, Joshua Angermeyer, and Nicolas Ortega-Carvalhal. Judy and her children are a multi-generational Galapagos family with deep roots, love and respect for these enchanting islands.

After major renovations, the lodge re-opened to the public as of January 2018, and with this new ownership comes dedication and ambition to continuously revitalize, grow and improve our lodge sustainably.

MINDFUL + SUSTAINABLE

The Galapagos Islands are a uniquely rare and precious archipelago.  With 97 percent of the islands considered National Park, we take great pride in the protection of these islands and the species within them.  We not only strive to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere at our lodge, but a sustainable one as well.  We are committed to applying sustainable, mindful and self-sustainable methods both inside and outside our lodge. Some examples are

Our water collection system, we have a 60,000 litre rainwater collection tank, that provides the lodge and our guests with fresh water.

Our meals are prepared using produce directly from the lodge and our family farm down the road.  This significantly reduces our carbon foot-print, as we are not importing produce from the mainland.

During the pandemic, when money was scarce for some in the island, we donated a large amount of our produce to those in need.

Over these past 2 years, we have implemented an endemic tree replanting project.  Some invasive plants and trees pose a threat to the native and endemic species on the island, putting a pre-established ecosystem at risk.  We have been taking invasive plants and trees out and replacing them with native and endemic ones.

We strive for growth and improvement and believe in applying a socially and environmentally conscious attitude to everything we do. We believe in preserving the exquisite life and ecosystems of these enchanted islands.
